SoundStorm was set up as a brand new agency by Dan Somogyi and Steve Harris in 2002, with the mission of developing inclusive music education projects in our region involving young people and the wider community. Our activities have involved some 150,000 participants and at least 400,000 audience members. We organise workshops, concerts, special projects, community choirs, festivals, annual conferences, skills development sessions and much more. We also play an important strategic role in the education and arts sectors in our region.

We were originally set up as an 18-month experiment by our partner local authorities but such was the success of our work that our funding has been maintained ever since. A key aim has been to widen the diversity of music in our area, developing exciting and cutting-edge projects and events which bring new experiences and sounds to the people of this part of the UK. Our philosophy is that music should be inclusive and fun to be involved in, at whatever level. We strongly believe music has the power to change lives and we have witnessed this through a number of the projects we have organised
